Regrets from a “Cat Muzzle” Designer

January 9, 2011

I know that leaving out the eyeholes is fundamental to the cat muzzle, but I don’t have to like it. And I don’t have to encourage people to use this product just because I designed it.

Vets will tell you that felines become agitated when they are muzzled and allowed to see. I disagree, and all I have in the way of “proof” is just my 17 years experience feeding the feral cats from my alley.

When will science learn to trust anecdotes from people with associates degrees?

Of course the perfect cat muzzle includes a pair of small goggles sewn into the fabric, but good luck getting that out to market.

I agree. My cat would trust me much more if he could see what I was doing even though he doesn’t like what I have to do. He’s an older cat (18) and his grooming isn’t always the best and needs his feet washed once a week, but absolutely hates it and tries to bite. I think I will just make my own with a clear vinyl piece sewn in that he can see through.
